The Art of Anxiety
The Hard Truth About Anxiety
Over 40 million adults have an anxiety disorder. Most of these people develop their symptoms before the age of 21. 6 millions adults have panic disorders. Only about 36.9% of those suffering with an anxiety disorder receive treatment. Women are twice as likely as men to develop an anxiety disorder.
Screw The Stigma
There are many different stigma's involving anxiety, the main three are social, structural, and self. Social is the biggest stigma in my opinion. Social stigma leads people with anxiety disorders to fear speaking out about their anxiety. Sometimes, this may cause more anxiety. Most people believe that anxiety is not an actual mental illness, and that you can just "snap out of it" when you want to. We need to do our part in ending the stigma, educating others, and doing our part to help those in need.
“I think the reality is...the stigma of mental illness is, in some ways, worse than the illness itself.”
